Thesis

I believe that technology has had more of a negative effect on society thus causing childhood obesity because humans are being taught with technology that everything can be done easily without a lift of a finger.

Annotated Bibliography (Revised)

Rahman Tamanna, Rachel A. Cushing, and Richard J. Jackson. "Contributions of Built    Environment to Childhood Obesity." Blackwell Publishing. 78. (2011): 42-57. Print
--This source that I found was in the school’s library database. This article "Contributions of Built Environment to Childhood Obesity" is about a mixture of things such as information on children nutrition, how childhood obesity is becoming relevant, and information on how lack of activity is causing obesity, and data / statistics on childhood Obesity. For example in the article it states info on how children are spending less time being active and more time in the house using technology such as watching TV and social networks.
--The reliability of this source is really efficient because this research information is a scholarly article that is up to date, has an author, and update information that you can trust, as well as the library classified this article to being a helpful source.
--I will be able to utilize this information for my paper because the necessary information I need to write my paper is in this article. For instance, why there is a lack of activity (technology usage) [could be found in article] and also the data and statistics would be helpful to state some background info in my essay as an argument and support.

"The Onion"

During this article "The Onion", what I got out of it was that in order for technology to be progress instead of peril you must go through destruction to get to paradise. For example, in the reading it stated that because of the hydrogen bonds technology for physics was enhanced. In class Professor Williams said that this cycle was a never ending cycle which is true. Because technology was created for the better no one thought about how technology would also destroy society. I believe that technology brings both peril and progress depending on who the beholder is but technology itself it neutral.

<--Will this future technology device bring progress or peril to society?

"This Is How We Live"

What I liked about the reading of, "This is How We Live" by Ellen DeGeneres I felt like she was taking the words right out of my mouth. Everyone says technology was made to help improve living, but I think that technology has help make people become more lazy. All of the easiest piece of technologies that we have now are being made even more simpler. Only the difficult things should be made easier to help life easier for us humans not everything. When DeGeneres stated, "Modern life requires hardly any physical activity" I 100% stand by her reasoning because our generation is lazy and technology is proving this point. Also hearing this statement made me think of my topic for my next essay on home technology does have a negative impact on the world and may be one of the few reasons why there is obesity.

"Hip Hop Life"

I choose to talk about this article we read this week because in class Professor Williams made me really think about if anything was entertainment or if entertainment was anything that must be enjoy and personally I believe that it can go hand and hand. In the reading "Hip Hop Life" DeSean talked about how Hip Hop was basically a reflection of his culture, but I believe that it is also his personal choice to like hip hop as well as something he enjoys listening to. So for him hip hop was entertaining for him because he enjoyed it and it also  hip hop was created for entertainment period. To me if something is in front of me in order for me to be entertained I must enjoy it. But entertainment can be anything in front of you hypothetically speaking also anything attempting to entertain you. The "Hip Hop Life" reading while reading this article didn't make me think of entertainment being a reflection of culture because not everyone in a culture will like hip hop,.but when we went over in class and broke it down to how the hip hop music  is about real life and how some people live under center circumstances it then makes sense to believe that entertainment is a reflection of culture.

Bad Interviewing Questions

During this interview Oprah question Lance Armstrong about his drug use. This interview if you watch it was a good example for a bad interview. Reason why it was a bad interview was because she asked bad question. She had a ton of Yes and No questions that could have went in dept and further explain his use for illegal drug use.

During the second video this man was being interviewed for a new job. The questioned ask from the interviewer were okay ,but the interviewee did not give good reasons to the interview questions.

Interviews are important on both the interviewer and interviewees part. Good questions and good asks are keep components to a good interview.

"Someone To Watch Over Me"

While reading the assigned reading, "Someone To Watch Over Me" I kind of was in shocked of how a 24 year old girl had so many different social networking sites to connect to different communities. It was understandable that she had the different social networking sites because she states, "Every profile is a carefully planned media campaign" (Stites 163). But on the other side it was still crazy how everyday she had a schedule to view each and every site to make sure everything was up to date. Even though online she is able to express her true personality as we go along generation now and to come people will lack the ability to communicate well with other face to face rather than just social networking site to social networking site. A lot of people search for acceptance from someone, but if someone doesn't except the person that you are then they're no meant to be there. This reading had me thinking a lot about how social networking sites take away from your personality but then again it lays it right in front of you. This girl put  a lot of time and effort into her sites and really love the different communities she was apart of which to me showed dedication, loyalty, and commitment.

"It Takes a Tribe"

In the reading, "It Takes a Tribe" David Berreby was explaining to his readers of how colleges do certain traditions that some of us may value them while others wouldn't seem to think it isn't as important to them. What was interesting about this reading was that Berreby is absolutely right. We as the people may not know it, but we form our groups everyday based on our beliefs and what we value. He gave an example of a college campus and how we have many communities and groups. We are one solid community because we all attending the same college but within our community we have the different majors you can choose to study, and further into that we have the different sections of that major to solely focus on. With that there are many of us who feel the same way on certain things and come together because we have a common interest and value that interest. One thing that Berreby said that caught my attention was when he said, "A college campus is full of people inventing a sense of "us" and a sense of "them".( Berreby-120) When he said this I believed that he was trying to say to his readers that if you believe in something or value what is stands for then you will feel part of that community. As well as not only you but others will feel the same way about it as well which will make you to us.

Update on Identity Collage

So far on my identity collage I have a solid foundation on what my overall theme is. My theme that I came up with was music because it shapes that person that I am today. I love music and it just sums up every aspect of my life. I decided that I was gonna have pictures of things that I have done with music and how it relates to me, as well as favorite artist and instruments. As for my actually collage, I haven't started on it yet because I am still looking for more ways of how music and I come together as one also different pictures as well. I feel as thought that this essay/ assignment will show to others the person that I am, but it will also show to me how much music is me and can describe that person that I am from sweet and sensitive to dramatic and free flowing. Looking forward to everyone else collages as well. :)

Identity..

While reading this weeks reading assignments, "Alter Egos: Avatars and Their Creators", "Facebook: Editing Myself", and "High Schools Secret Life" the reading that seem to pop out to me the most was the "Alter Egos: Avatars and Their Creators".What I found most interesting about the reading was that most people create an avatar to escape from life and how they are perceived by others. Many of the creators had different reasons to why they have created their avatars, but overall it came back to the main idea of their identity and how your avatar is related to you in a form of way. One of the creators Jason Rowe created his avatar based on his physical disabilities to not being able to do certain things. With his avatar he is able to escape from the real world as well as interact with people and everyone would be on "common ground" (Dibbell). Jason felt as though his avatar was able to make people get to know him by his mind and personality rather that his physical appearance. Another avatar creator by the name of Rebecca Glausure created her avatar because of not being treated fairly based on her gender so she made an avatar completely opposite from her.

My personal opinion to this reading is that it is true. Deep within everyone there is a feeling of wanting to be something that they cannot be in the real world or fleeing from a situation that is occurring and the only way for us to channel or emotion and actions is to create something that could be us so that we can be ourselves and brings out the true identity within us.
